It was while working with this veterinarian that I discovered that I had a way with working with soft tissue problems. I had many opportunities to discover my talents for massage and what I later learned is called craniosacral therapy, with my focus being on rehabilitating OTTBs and helping to rehab cast-off show and event horses.
Unfortunately the onset of severe allergies at 18 necessitated a change in trajectory. Now, almost three decades later, after working at uncovering my own trauma and finding myself no longer allergic to horses, I have rediscovered my passion and am excited to help you help your horse be their best self.
A thirty year period of not being able to be around horses ended in January of 2020. What has followed has been a reigniting of my first and strongest passion: working with horses!
I believe in connecting with horses, listening to their intentions through observation of their actions and energy, and doing all I can to help them feel and perform at their very best.
You have a fair number of equine bodyworkers from which to choose, and I understand that. What makes me different? I am a lifelong learner and I am eager to find answers to those issues I am unsure about and will work with you and your horse to uncover what is causing them pain, anxiety, and distress. And I will do so with integrity and empathy.
When I met Bear last summer I was told by his owner that he was thin-skinned and did not like to be curried. Within a few minutes of working with this big goofball I found that he actually adored being curried and brushed, but that he had some aches and pains he wanted addressed. We spent the sumer hanging out and connecting and helping each other with what we needed. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement and a great jump back into the pond of horsemanship and bodywork.
Baron and I began our journey together when my trainer approached me and offered for me to ride him with greater regularity. He and have been working together and have become quite the pair! He is a great communicator and I have learned to hear what he has to say by paying attention to his quirky behavior and connect with him on a deeper level. Once a very reactive boy when it came to having his longissiumus dorsi and sacrum worked on he now allows me to palpate and release these areas with hardly a fuss.
Through working with him I have found creative ways to get him to allow me to work on his more sensitive regions, first starting while on his back. It's been a wonderful experience and I certainly love this big silly guy an awful lot! What is most wonderful about our connection is that others can see (and they have commented on) how much happier and more balanced he has become and that makes me both happy and proud. Afterall, my goal is to help horses, and I know that Baron has been helped (and that he has helped me).
Connection is everything and listening to each horse is so incredibly important. If we take the time to listen to our horses and figure out what it is that they are trying to tell us with their behaviors, we can discover how to help them in ways that foster true connection and healthier animals.
